What are the preparations before using the cable fault tester?

1. Check the normal status of the instrument

Before using the instrument, you can follow the following steps to check if the instrument is working properly.

After the 1.1 pulse is triggered, press the power button and the instrument's main view window will be displayed on the LCD screen. The LCD screen displays text and data such as fault distance, wave velocity, measurement range, and proportion.

1.2 Press the panel button, the active cursor in the middle of the instrument moves, and the fault distance data changes accordingly.

1.3 Adjust the gain potentiometer, and the waveform amplitude displayed on the instrument screen will increase or decrease.

If the range is changed according to the operating steps in the range menu, the range and emission pulse width on the instrument display screen will also change accordingly, indicating that the instrument is working properly.

2. Preliminary judgment of fault type

It is necessary to analyze the cause and type of the malfunction before testing. Based on on-site conditions and practical experience, general instruments such as ohmmeters and megohmmeters can be selected for preliminary analysis and judgment.

3. Select the working mode of the trigger

If there are wire breakage, poor contact, low resistance grounding, and short circuit faults, the pulse method should be used. If it is a high resistance flashover fault of power cables, the flashover method should be used. And place the trigger working mode selection switch in the corresponding position.
